Being a Doctor (or a patient) in Tudor times could quite gruesome. There were all sorts of nasty diseases, infections and horrible injuries you could suffer from. Mary Queen of Scots even had her own surgeon and as time went on she needed all the tips and tricks to prop herself up.

Now is your chance to become a Tudor doctor for a day through a variety of activities and our Tudor Doctors trail. Have you got the skills it takes to help cure your patients and to survive.

On the day you will be able to collect your doctors medical record to keep track of all your doctoring (you will need one to participate).

Tickets are £4.50 per child, we also wellcome walk ins. Adults and under 2s are free of charge.

  •        Design and Craft a Tudor Cure
  •        Tudor Doctors Trail
  •        Craft a plague doctor mask
  •        Craft a Pomander

Additional activities: For history buffs we are offering history guided tours at 10.30am, 12pm and 1.30pm with our expert historian David Templeman (£4.50pp). Also experience a walk in our historic grounds, discover the story of Mary Queen of Scots, play in our outdoor sandpit and treat yourself to an Our Cow Molly Ice cream!

Are you keen gardener or interested in finding out what plant life is growing in your local green spaces?

Join plant expert Gerry Firkins for a stroll around the historic grounds and Sheffield Manor Lodge and explore your landscape! Gerry is a local botanist and has led field meetings for Sheffield University, WEA and the RSPB since the 1980s. He has also taught plant ID for several years and assisted in the preparation of the 'Flora of Sheffield'

Your ticket includes:

  • a gentle tour of plant life growing at Sheffield Manor Lodge lasting approximately an hour and a half.
  • Opportunities to get hands on with plant life. Gerry will also be on hand to answer your flora queries.
  • A free tea or coffee at the Discovery Centre (this can be enjoyed on or after your stroll)
